Since the October arrival of our first daughter, Berit, I have been looking forward to giving her a bath. There is just something inherently tender about bathing your new baby and bonding with them as they splash in the water. There are many ways to get your infant squeaky clean, but today we’re going to take a look at the Infant Tub from 4moms.
If you’re an avid Wise Baby reader, then you already know we are huge fans of 4moms products (in fact, we are also giving away a mamaRoo – here). They are smartly designed, easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. I’m happy to say that the Infant Tub is no exception.
Size: The tub itself is adequately sized (32″ x 16.75″ x 9″) and advertised to fit most single and double basin sinks and bath tubs. I found the Infant Tub to be too deep to fit over our bathroom sinks, but it did fit our deeper, double kitchen sink. If you have a shallow sink or a low faucet head, this product might not work for you. Elevated faucets, like those most commonly found in kitchens work best. Also, if you have a round or a narrow bath tub, you might find it difficult to aim the faucet correctly in order to fill the reservoir. Be sure to measure your sink before you buy!
Function: The tub is easy to set up and use. One side of the tub gathers water from your faucet into a reservoir which spills over into the main side of the tub that holds baby. Plugs are located on the side of the tub to allow parents to control the water level and drain out dirty water. The main bath is lined with a soft foam, which cushions baby and easily wipes clean after use.
While the tub is rated to safely hold babies from birth until they can sit up on their own, I do think tiny newborns could slide around in the main tub. We fixed this problem with our daughter by placing a rolled up washcloth under her until she was strong enough to hold her head up on her own and sit comfortably in the tub.
One of the smartest features of this tub is the digital thermometer, which is embedded with a color-coded system that tells you if the water is too cold or too hot for baby. Water coming from the faucet that is too cold, which have a blue read out, while water that is at a safe and comfortable temperature, will be green. Water too hot will flash red and be accompanied by an audible beep, altering parents to change the temperature. It should be noted that the thermometer requires three AAA batteries, which are not included with the tub.
As parents of a two month old baby, my husband and I love how the tub circulates fresh water through the bath. Accidents often happen during bath time so it’s a lifesaver to be able to flush out the dirty water and continue to bathe your child. Additionally, because the water flowing in is always at a consistent temperature, baby doesn’t get cold. We also love that the tub includes a cup for rinsing and two cup holders that can easily hold shampoo or body wash.
Drawbacks: While the function of the tub is pretty seamless, it does use a lot of water since the faucet must be running the whole time you bathe your baby to properly fill the reservoir. Also, this tub is on the larger size and as noted above, does not universally fit all sinks and tubs. It can be difficult to store in small bathrooms due to its size.
Overall: The 4moms Infant Tub has some very smart features which make bathing your baby not only fun, but a total breeze. It beats bending over a traditional tub! The digital thermometer gives parents peace of mind that baby is safe and the Clean Water Flow keeps the bath water fresh for use.
