By now, you probably all know my love for the Baby Bjorn baby carriers. We have the Original have always loved it. So when Baby Bjorn contacted me about reviewing and testing their newest carrier, the Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier One, I squealed with excitement (no joke). The world of baby carriers can be tough to navigate and choosing a carrier can be a personal decision. The introduction of the Baby Carrier One will make your decision easier because it is truly awesome. Seriously, awesome. And of course, we are offering a giveaway to one lucky reader which is exciting as ever but even more exciting because the Baby Carrier One isn’t in stores until next month! However, it is available for preorder and registry placement at certain stores – see them here.
First, lets talk features/specs:
- The Baby Carrier One is for use with newborns (minimum 8 pounds) to age approximately age three (maximum 33 pounds)
- You can wear your babe forward facing in/out and also on your back with a special forward facing newborn position for an extra snuggly hold. In other words, four position options.
- Ergonomic design with back distribution and a waist belt for added parental and babe comfort.
- All fabrics safety tested and free from hazardous chemicals.
- Machine washable
The Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier One takes all of the things I love about the Original Carrier and takes them up a notch. First, position wise. I love that there is a special position for newborns. One of my complaints about the Orginal Carrier is it wasn’t as secure as I would have liked when Eloise was a newborn. The Baby Carrier One solves this problem with a zipper that allows the seat to sit higher and a teeny, little baby to sit higher up and more securely/closer to you. Luckily, a friend let me test the Carrier with her little six week old and I am much more pleased with the added security I feel with the Baby Carrier One. When you’re babe outgrows the newborn position you simply move the seat down to the lower zipper level and you are set to go. Further, the leg openings adjust to make the seat more comfortable as your babe grows.
Everyone in our house is big fans of baby wearing. Us, because of the convenience it affords when navigating the city/a busy restaurant or any other tight quarters. Eloise loves to be in the carrier because she is out and about, looking around. As Eloise has gotten older and bigger although, she is still on the small side it has gotten more difficult to carry her for longer walks in our current carrier. As mentioned, the Baby Carrier One has added shoulder padding, an adjustable back yolk and wasit belt for back support that help parental comfort considerably. Tyler and I both agree it is super comfortable to wear and we have yet to go a distance where we have been uncomfortable. We’ve definitely been out and about for 3+ miles in the Baby Carrier One so I would say it well tested from a parental comfort standpoint.
We’ve tried all other positions as well – front facing in/out and backwards. Eloise is still probably a little small/young for the back carry and wasn’t super wild about it (but it was very comfy for us!) but I think as she gets older (and me more pregnant) we’ll love having the option for a back carry. She love, loves the front facing out and was comfortable and still (which never happens) the entire time she was in the Baby Carrier One. The inward facing front carry is great for when she gets sleepy, needs to relax and put her head down. The Baby Carrier One was developed alongside Pediatricians to ensure safe positioning at all ages and stages. It is not just ergonomically designed for parents but of course, the kiddos too with its padded seat, outward facing seams and adjustable width leg holes.
The Baby Carrier One is as easy to use as all other Baby Bjorn carriers. It has the same patented buckles that “click” to let you know the buckle is securely fastened = peace of mind. All of the straps are adjustable while the carrier is on to ensure a comfortable and secure fit every time for every person wearing it. This is the first carrier I tried with the back carry option so it took me a few times to get the hang of it but it is by no means difficult to execute. Lastly, the Baby Carrier One can be compactly folded up so it easy to transport. For much more detail on positions, adjustablity and how the Baby Carrier One works, this video is really great…
So, what is my negative feedback? Honestly, I have been using the Baby Carrier One for 2+ weeks and don’t have much bad to say. It is a little bulkier than the Original or other carriers but it doesn’t bother me because I think the extra umpf makes it more comfortable. And since it easily and compactly folds up it is easier to throw in the car or the stroller than other carriers.
The Baby Carrier One’s adjustability, ease of use and ability to grow with you and your babe through all ages and stages is nearly unmatched. I knew I would love this carrier but I really enjoy it much more than I thought. This is a great carrier to add to your baby registry because it is so versatile and can function well in nearly any lifestyle.
We are giving away a Baby Carrier One to a lucky reader – as mentioned, the Baby Carrier One is not available in stores until October so this is even more exciting than usual!
