I have no problem admitting that I under estimated the convince of a baby carrier. Sure I added on to my registry because it was on the list Babies R Us gave me which meant I had to have it, right? After my through research (of course) I opted for the Baby Bjorn Original. My husband was actually surprised I opted for the Orignal given all the other models and brands out there. But I have to say this is one of the registry decisions I remain fully satisfied with almost seven months later. I will say that choosing the perfect baby carrier is a personal decision and what works for someone may not work for another. That being said, our goal is to provide information based on our research and experience with the products – all of this to give you the information to make the best decison for YOU!

We have the Baby Bjorn Original Carrier and there were two main reasons I choose it:
1) the color coded buckles that make putting it on almost fool proof
2) the ability to take the carrier off with a sleeping baby and keep baby sleeping
We started using the Original as soon as Eloise was over eight pounds (minimum weight is eight pounds, maximum s twenty five pounds). And let me tell you how glad I was that I had color coded buckles to ensure my teeny newborn was secure! I was a total nervous nelly the first time I went outside with her in it and knowing that it was on correctly helped put my mind at ease. From day one, Eloise has always been comfortable and happy in the Original. The Original requires no additional inserts for a newborn and provides ample head and neck support for your little one. Although, I have to admit I didn’t really start to love this carrier until Eloise was 6 – 8 weeks old. Eloise didn’t mind the carrier at the newborn stage but I felt like she was dwarfed and just too little (even though she met height and weight requirements). However, it did fit her snuggly and she was definitely secure. This could be as much as new mom thing as a reality but I thought it worth mentioning. Nowadays, she is over fifteen pounds and loves to face outward and soak up the surroundings. We still use the inward facing option too but with the head and neck support folded securely down. It was important to me in a carrier that Eloise could both face in and out and am glad we have this options. We use this carrier multiple times a week and it is also super convenient to use when you have a baby who wants to be help and need an extra set of hands!
I have also come to love that it is easy to get Eloise in this carrier. I have tried LOTS of carriers and not all are this simple. Don’t get me wrong it is still a learning process but after a few times we are pros. The carrier is two pieces so it is easy to get a sleeping baby out of the carrier, hopefully still sleeping. To me, this is an advantage and a necessary connivence. As much as the color coded buckles are handy I also appreciate the ability to easily tighten the carrier once it is on. However, it is not as easy to loosen and I would recommend loosening it before putting it on.
As I mentioned, I have tried numerous other carriers and wraps and find the Bjorn to be comfortable. Eloise is a little bean though and fairly lightweight for her age. Some parents complain this carrier is uncomfortable for their back and neck with heavier children which is something to consider in making your carrier choice.
The Original is lightweight and machine washable. I almost always stuff this is in the bottom of our stroller(s) when we are on long walks or outings. I love having the option to easily put her in the Carrier. I know I mention that it is easy to get Eloise in the carrier and it is BUT I will say that I have had plenty of struggles trying to get on me. Not that it gets terribly tangled or anything and maybe it is just me but I have probably put this on inside out or had it tangled around me upwards of twenty times… Tyler has had the same struggles which makes me feel better. It can be a little frustrating at times but like I said, could be user error.
Some parents complain about the positioning of baby in this carrier. Baby Bjorn worked with pediatricians including orthopedic pediatricians on the design of this carrier to ensure it is safe and comfortable for your little one. As I have mentioned, Eloise has always been happy and comfortable in this carrier however, I have had some friends whose children have not liked to be in carriers at all. No matter if it is a wrap, Original or other type of carrier. For this reason, I definitely suggest keeping your receipt in case your little one does not enjoy the carrier.
Overall, the Original is a great choice based upon its ease of use, comfort and its ability to grow with your child. It was named to our Best Baby Products of 2012 for those reasons. However, there are many great carriers out there and what works for some may not work for others.

Walnut please!
I purchased the Stokke bc it was supposed to be a cross between ergo and bjorn. I try it everyday and my son hates it. We have tried bjorn at our friends house and he loves it! I learned not to stray from the originals! Given the Hefty price tag of the stokke my husband to me to make it work… We need this win:-)

I LOVE the original Baby Bjorn. I had that and used it until my daughter Izzie was 6months old since she’s kind of outgrown it. Although I was not able to use it for a longer period of time, I can say I’m still satisfied with it. It’s a nice carrier, I love the back/shoulder support. It comes really handy esp. when you have to do a lot of things. But it would be better if one can use it longer as the baby grows.
