I am super excited to share today’s review with you. We purchased a Beaba Babycook as a Christmas gift to Eloise (lucky her) and have been using it since mid-December. Choosing to make your own baby food depends on your situation but if you can swing it is not only fun but a wonderfully healthy option for your little one. That being said, there are some great pre-made foods out there so don’t beat yourself up if your situation doesn’t allow for your own babyfood making!
The Babycook is a one stop baby food making shop. It basically does everything besides peeling/chopping the fruit and veggies (the new Pro model does the chopping!). The Babycook allows you to steam, blend, defrost and reheat delicious meals for your little one. It is super easy to use and I love that it is all done in ONE vessel. Meaning only one dish to wash = total win.
The Babycook is easy to use. Depending on the type of food you are making, use the marked levels on the pitcher to pour the apropriate amount of water in the water reservoir.
Place your chopped meal choice in the steam basket which fits nicely into the blender
Turn the knob to steam and viola you are steaming for approximately 15 minutes.
Once the steam cycle is done the knob will go back to center and the orange light will turn off, careful open the lid and slid the hand spatula through the top of the basket and remove and set aside. Pour the water from the pitcher somewhere off to the side as you may want to use to thin the mixture. I have found not all foods require water be used to thin the puree but things like carrots, peas, squash puree more smoothly once water is added back. This obviously also depends on the texture you are going for! We are still at stage 1/early stage 2 over here.
Pour the food back into the pitcher and blend to your desired consistency. And now you have a delicious, all natural meal for your little one. How easy was that?!?
We’ve made carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pears, apples, blueberries, peach, mangoes, strawberries and other I’m sure I am forgetting. Everything comes out great but my one word of advice is to blend for longer than you think. Don’t get me wrong, the blender works great but smaller pieces do get lost in the mix so blend, blend, even when you think it is super smooth. Bottom line, you have ability to blend to your desired consistency which is great and allows the Babycook to move right along with you as you progress through the feeding stages.
The bad? The Babycook could be considered an “extra” appliance in the kitchen. You could definitely achieve the same results by steaming the traditional way and blending in a food processor or blender. I tend to cook large batches of food – maybe two or three varieties and enough to last a week or so. That being said, the steaming basket is a little on the small side. You can definitely make plenty of food but there have been times that I had wished it was larger. Although I consider this a minor/non-issue it is one worth mentioning. It’s as easy as running another steam cycle which isn’t the end of the world.
So once you make all this delicious food, what are you to do with it? The Multiportion of course! The Multiportion is made of silicone, is BPA free and specifically designed for freezing and storing delicious meals for your little one. The Multiportion stores seven portions of two ounces (1/4 cup) and is super easy to use. The frozen food easily pops out and once microwaved for a minute or so is ready to be served. It is dishwasher safe which is of course, a huge plus. I have tried a few other food storage methods and really like the Multiportion. Before I had two, I would empty the frozen “meals”, wrap them in foil and store them until I was ready to use. This allowed me to free up my Multiportion.
We are giving away a Multiportion to one lucky reader! Even if you don’t have the Beaba Babycook, the Multiportion is a great storage option! To enter,
