Its about time we talk about the best of the best baby products for 2014. We spend countless hours researching baby products and all of these are products that we would buy for our children and use in our home. Many of which, we have reviewed first hand and the few that we haven’t are beloved by our real mom readers. There are LOTS of really great baby products our there though and we’d love to hear your favorites, too!
Best infant car seat: Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4/35 Infant Car Seat
I can’t really stress how much I love this infant car seat. You can see my full review, here but after more use and testing I still love this seat as much as I did when I wrote the review. It is super safe, lightweight and made of great, breathable fabric. One of my favorite features are the built in strap holders to keep straps out of the way when putting your little one in!
Convertible car seat: Clek Foonf
The Clek Foonf is unique from other convertible car seats in that it has a rigid LATCH system meaning the LATCH connectors are metal verses seat belt like material. However, this is just one of the awesome features that makes the Foonf one of the safest seats on the market. We reviewed it in full, here and it has been featured several times on Real Moms Favorite Baby Products. For what it is worth, when we move back to the midwest next summer and have our own cars again, the Foonf is likely the seat I will purchase for our girls.
High Chair: Stokke Steps
If I was registering today, there is no doubt the Stokke Steps would tops my list. Yes, it is pricey but you are getting several products that will last you through the “little years”. After two kids, I can tell you there is seriously value in quality products that grow with your children. The bouncer (which is awesome own its own) securely snaps into the toddler chair creating a perfect high chair for the early days of solid feeding. The recline of the bouncer provides the proper support that a 4-6 months old needs for their first taste of solids. As your little one grows, you snap on the the Baby Set and tray which provides a five point harness and support for infants and toddlers. In my mind, a five point harness is so important – not only for support but containment, too! As your little one moves into a more independent toddler, you can remove the baby kit and still have a supportive chair that will last through the toddler years. I am hoping we can review this product first hand in 2015 but from what we know and have seen in stores – this is an awesome way to go. (ps, we still love, the Stokke Tripp Trapp and the Fisher Price Space Saver is a great, budget friendly option)
Strollers are very personal decisions and choices can vary greatly based on your lifestyle. For more help with the stroller decision, check out our stroller reviews or leave us a comment here and we’ll try to point you in a direction that is right for you!
Full Size Stroller: Baby Jogger City Select
The Baby Jogger City Select takes tops honors again. This versatile, super easy to fold and well built stroller is simply awesome. We use this to navigate the craziness that is Manhattan but have friends and readers that use it for on the go/in/out of cars in the ‘burbs. In addition to its multiple seat configurations you can easily add a second seat, making the City Select a very wise investment. The storage basket is huge, the canopy is enormous, it has all the bells and whistles a savvy parent would demand but at an affordable price. It was nearly a tie with the UppaBaby Vista but the Vista is getting a make over for 2015 so we didn’t include it here. If you are registering now or in 2015- you must check out the new Vista!
Lightweight Stroller: UPPAbaby G-Luxe
We have always loved the G-Luxe. It is a complete stroller in the form of an umbrella stroller. It has one handed recline, a nice canopy, sturdy frame and a comfortable seat. All of those features packed into a stroller weighing 15 pounds that comes with a carrying strap? Awesome. This is a great stroller for travel and on the go but you know what, we see LOTS of people fighting the urban jungle in Manhattan with this as their everyday stroller!
Jogging Stroller: BOB Revolution SE
I almost choose the BOB Revolution as the best all around stroller. Why? Because everyone LOVES it. From mom’s that are die hard runners, training for marathons to moms who just like to stroll the neighborhood and run errands – the BOB is a hit. This is the third year the BOB has taken the top honors for best jogging stroller and I don’t see that changing anytime, soon! (Although, we did love the Baby Jogger Summit X3)
Baby Carrier: Beco Gemini
The Beco Gemini is super easy and comfortable to wear. You can use it from day 1 (7 pounds) without any additional inserts and can use it up to 35 pounds. There are 4 comfortable carrying positions to suit a growing child: front in/out, back and hip carry. Bottom line, this is just a downright fabulous carrier that we love and use in our daily lives – see more via our full review, here. Bonus, there are lots of great color options!
Soft Carrier: Solly Baby Wrap
The Solly Baby Wrap came across our screen countless times this year. These wraps are made of super soft, stretchy fabric that you will want to have PJ’s (or entire wardrobe) made of this material. They are super portable, can easily fit into a diaper bag and one size nearly fits all. These are perfect for the first 9-12 months when your little one wants to be close to you all the time. The Solly Baby Wrap is great for first time moms and also great for moms on baby #2 as it allows you to keep your newborn close while leaving you hands free. This is another product we hope to have a first hand review of in 2015 but in the meantime, we recommend it based on the rave reviews we hear from readers and friends alike.
Infant Seat: 4moms Rockaroo
I love the rockaRoo. New late last year/early this year, the rockaRoo has taken the baby seat world by storm. The rockaRoo is the less fancy version of the mamaRoo but for Margaux, it was a home run. She loved the simple rocking motion and I loved the small footprint and chic design. If you are torn between the mamaRoo (with 5 different motions) and the rockaRoo I will tell you it is usually a matter of baby preference and either is a great place to start, I just love the simplicity of the rockaRoo and my baby tester did too! More in our review, here.
Video Baby Monitor: Motorola MBP36 Remote Wireless Video Baby Monitor
I have had a tumultuous year of testing baby monitors. These days I need two cameras and finding one that worked reliably and seamlessly has been tough. The Motorola isn’t perfect but it is very close. It provides clear sound and picture, has a decent battery life (but we are using it at home so to me, isn’t a big deal to keep it plugged in) and has great range (I have never lost a signal). My only gripe with it is the lack of voice activation meaning there is constantly white noise in the background. However, the other excellent features outweigh this downfall. Best of all, it works, 100% of the time which gives me the peace of mind I need!
Bath tub: 4moms Infant Tub
We think all of 4moms products are pretty genius and their infant tub is no different and really, it is so genius because of something really simple – it filters out the dirty water and filters in the clean water. Duh, right? It gets your little one clean while keeping them warm and comfortable the entire time. The icing on the cake is the built in water temperature thermometer to keep your baby safe. Yes, this is built for a first time parent! 😉
Play yard: Nuna Sena
The Nuna Sena is a great play yard and/or travel crib – see our full review, here. It folds up with one hand and can be set up within minutes. It comes with a bassinet so can be used in the early days and up to three years old! One of my favorite features, other than the ease of use is that it comes with a roomy travel bag with an easy carry handle – no trying to get it to fit in small bag or yanking to get a mattress wrapped tightly around itself. However, we still really love last year’s pick, the 4moms Breeze, too!
Three favorites from our weekly, Real Moms Favorite Baby Products posts:
Fisher-Price Discover ‘n Grow Kick and Play Piano Gym
This fun activity gym from Fisher Price is hugely popular. Time and time again, moms write and say, “I heard about this on real moms favorites and it is one of my baby’s most favorite products“. Not a month goes by that we don’t feature this fun product!
Fisher-Price Rock n’ Play Sleeper
The Rock n’ Play Sleeper may be the “all time” favorite baby product on The Wise Baby. We have personally used and loved it, our editors, friends and family have. It is a great option for newborns and babies with any sort of reflux issues as it allows your baby to rest at an incline. In addition, the cozy nature of it keeps your little one feeling secure. It folds up super easy and is lightweight so is great for moving around the house or taking over to friends and families houses. We all have nothing but great things to say about this product and all of our “real moms” do too.
Boppy Newborn Lounger
The Boppy Newborn Lounger has been SO incredibly popular this year. We called this the “newborn couch” in our house (our review, here). The Boppy Newborn Lounger is a perfect and cozy resting place for your little newborn. Moms love it because it gives them a safe place for their little one to rest while they get things done around the house. I don’t think a month has gone by without the Newborn Lounger featured and sometimes it was back to back weeks!
So there you have it, our favorite baby products for 2014. As we already mentioned, there are so many more great products out there and these are just ones that stand out to us one way or another. Our best baby products 2013 list is still full of many great baby products that we use and recommend often!
Stay tuned for the new “Best of” Baby Registry Guide coming up next week!
