With my first son, I somehow managed to manage not having some sort of diaper pail. Don’t ask me how, because I can’t remember. The only thing I can think of is that the layout of our house/where we change diapers was completely different? Who knows. This time around, however, I knew I would need something. Our bedroom, where Oscar is changed, is right next door to our kitchen, which is open to our living room and I didn’t want any smells to travel that length. Enter the Diaper Dekor Plus Diaper Disposal System. We’ve been using (and using, and using) the Diaper Dekor Plus for two months now and I’m happy to report that I love it as much as you can love a bin that holds dirty diapers… maybe even more so.
So why do I love it? First of all, and most importantly, it completely contains the smell. The Dekor Plus has two layers of rubber seals separating your nursery from the smell. The foot pedal-controlled lid is rubber sealed to keep smells in and there is a spring controlled trap door under that which allows diapers to be dropped in quickly and easily (my two year old can work it) and the springs back into place to contain the smell. The trap door can even be locked into place if you would like.
The Dekor Plus can hold up to 60 newborn diapers, which is fantastic when you have a newborn. They go through so many diapers! The bag system is great, as it’s almost an endless bag. When your at capacity, you simply pull the bag down, cut it with the child proof, door mounted cutter, tie a knot, and start using it again. The refills are inexpensive and so easy to install and use, but if you choose not to use them, or forget to order them in time like I did, a regular garbage bag or a cloth bag fits just fine.
One thing I really love about the Dekor Plus is how child proof it is. One thing I wasn’t expecting with a brand new baby is just how exciting diaper changing time is to my oldest son. He loves to help, and the large pedal makes it easy for him to throw diapers away for me, but the easy, childproof lock on the front of the pail, as well as the latch for the trap door, give me a piece of mind that his curiosity won’t get the better of him and make a big mess.
The Dekor Plus comes in six great colors – we chose white – and the ABS plastic that it is made from is super scratch resistant and will never yellow over time, even if cleaned with bleach. The plastic is also odor resistant, which is a must in a diaper disposal system. As far as diaper pails go, the Dekor Plus is very attractive and can (and will!) even be used as a garbage can once our little one grows out of diapers.
I honestly don’t have a negative thing to say about the Dekor Plus. We have found it valuable from day one and I anticipate using it through our diapering days, even once we switch Oscar from disposables into his cloth diapers soon.
