HALO Sleepsack Review + Giveaway!

Last week we reviewed the new SwaddleChange from HALO and this week we are taking a closer look at the product that started it all for HALO, the sleepsack.  We have been using sleepsacks, specifically the HALO SleepSack Swaddle since day one and they have been a lifesaver.  As innovative and handy as sleepsacks are what I love most about them is the fact they create a safe, cozy sleeping environment for Eloise.  Today we are not only reviewing the SleepSack Swaddle but giving one away to a lucky readers – details below!

For the purposes of this review we are specifically talking about the SleepSack Swaddle which is for for newborn to six months.   We we are still going strong and using the next stage sleepsack which is free of the swaddle.  HALO makes sleepsacks that work up through the toddler years.

halo-sleesack-swaddle-3 I registered for several different sleepsacks and the ones from HALO have been our favorites since the beginning.  There are lots of reasons why I have favored HALO but for a first time mom and one who had little swaddling experience I needed all the help I could get. The SleepSack Swaddle has a swaddle built in that attached securely and safely with velcro.   Sure swaddling becomes second nature but I can’t tell you how happy I was to have one that was near foolproof built in to Eloise’s way to sleep safely.  This built in, foolproof swaddle was a total lifesaver for me when I was trying to re-swaddle after the midnight, 2am, 4am and so forth feedings.  Some of the awesome features of the SleepSack Swaddle may be not so obvious:

  • the zipper zip from the top down making diaper changes super easy
  • the roomy lower portion promotes healthy hip development (more on that later)
  • natural and cozy fabric choices (cotton, fleece, valboa and chenille)
  • sleeveless design allows baby to wear regular sleepwear and prevents overheating
  • “back is best” embroidered on each sleepsack to remind all caregivers that back is best!

halo-sleepsack-swaddle The SleepSack Swaddle allows for swaddling arms in or out which is a great feature.  For example, Eloise hit the three week mark and decided she hated being swaddled arms in so we tried one night with the swaddle around her mid section and arms out.  Worked like a charm.  In fact, we just transitioned out of the “mid section swaddle” about a month ago (and only because Eloise realized she could undo the velcro and it was fun a toy!). We used both the organic cotton, regular cotton and fleece and all held up very well against our near daily washing and wearing.

While the tangible features of the SleepSack Swaddle are great what I always loved most about it was the peace of mind it gave me. The SleepSack Swaddle is designed with safe sleeping in mind. By using any sleepsack, not just the swaddle, you are reducing the need for loose blankets in the crib which is a risk factor of Sudden Infant Death Syndrom (SIDS).  HALO was founded by a father who lost his in ant daughter to SIDS so the mission behind each sleepsack is real.  HALO has great safe sleeping tips and even if you heard them before, check them out again to remind yourself.

We mentioned the roomy lower portion promoting proper hip development above and the HALO’s SleepSack Swaddles is approved by the International Hip Dysplasia Institue at “Hip Healthy”.  In summary swaddling your little one too tight in the hip section can be one of the causes of hip dysplasia.  To be clear, genetics, birth position among other things are also common causes of hip dysplasia.  Bottom line, proper swaddling which allows the legs and hips to move freely.  Read more about HALO’s Hip Healthy rating, here.

Bottom line, the HALO SleepSack is one of my most favorite baby products.  I love them and use them everyday and couldn’t recommend them more.

As mentioned, we are giving away a SleepSack Swaddle to one lucky reader.  To enter:
