This afternoon, meet our fabulously talented editor, Megan. In her “real life” Megan happens to be a professional photographer and mama to a super sweet and handsome little guy with baby girl #2 on the way in early 2014. Megan is not only a wise photographer and the voice behind such posts as how to take better pictures of your children but also a wise mama hence the comprehensive diaper review she wrote. You can view all of Megan’s informative posts, here. I am beyond thrilled to have Megan on board with us so without further ado, meet Megan!
Hi Wise Baby! I’m super excited to be included as a part of the Wise Baby team. My name is Megan and I live in Dallas, Texas with my sweet little family. I wear many hats but my favorite one is Mommy 🙂 Before anything else I am a mom to my sweet two and a half year old boy Jackson and his baby sister who we are expecting this January. I am also a newborn, child and family photographer based out of Dallas Texas – you can find my work both personal and professional at Megan Elizabeth Portraits. When I’m not a photographer – I’m a daughter, a sister, a yogi, an accountant (yup, I have a masters in accounting!), a friend, a dog mom, a volunteer, a chik fil a addict, and of course a St. Louis Cardinals fan. I love reading the Wise Baby and I especially love reading about products that have been tested and tried by real moms. In my two and a half years as a mama these have been my favorite things:
1 – Mamas & Papas Urbo Stroller
I love this stroller SO much – it is definitely my favorite baby item. I’m so sad there is no double stroller model 🙁 It is light, folds easily and had a really smooth ride. My favorite part is that I can adjust the seat to face me or away from me – so if we’re at the Zoo Jax can look out at the animals and if we’re at the mall he can face in and keep me company 🙂 We’ve used this stroller from 4mo to 2.5 years and its still going strong!
2 – Aden and Anais swaddling blankets
These are the best swaddling blankets I found. I love that they are breathable and just stretchy enough to secure a good swaddle. Also, they’re big, which I love because you can use them to swaddle from newborn to 3-4 months. We also used these swaddlers to cover the car seat when Jax was a baby and as crib blankets during the summers.
3 – Playtex insulated sippy cups
I love these. They come in a variety of colors/characters and are SO much easier to clean than most other sippy cups I tried. They don’t leak they were easy for my little guy to use when he was first learning. Also, the spout is hard plastic, which my pediatrician recommended for healthy teeth.
4 – Petunia Pickelbottom Messenger diaper bag
This diaper bag is super functional and also pretty cute. I love the zippered fold-out changing station – it was so easy in a pinch. Also I love how big this bag is – I could throw my big camera, my wallet, an ipad, my phone, diapers, wipes, extra bottles and extra clothes in this bag no problem (and thank god for strollers because that thing would get heavy…)
5 – Cotton long john pajamas
I don’t care what brand they are, these are my favorite pajamas for kiddos 🙂 Jax has been wearing cotton long john pajamas since he was 6-months old. They’re comfortable, easy, breathable and pretty darn cute. Our favorites come from Wal-Mart for $5 (that’s right I make a special trip to wally world just for these…) and Gymboree for $21.
6 – Infant bath sponge
I was never a fan of plastic infant baths – they all felt to bulky and hard to maneuver. I used this bath sponge with Jax until he was old enough to sit in the bath, so for about the first 6-months. I just laid it in out bath and filled the bath about 2 – inches and laid him on top of the sponge. The sponge keeps baby warm and makes bath time much easier.
7 – Cloud B Twilight Turtle
This night light is so cute I want to put one in my room. It projects stars onto the ceiling of your child’s room and works on a timer to automatically turn off after a set amount of time. Jax loves falling asleep with this and no longer tells me he’s “scared of the dark” at bedtime.
8 – Moby Wrap
We were a house divided here – daddy preferred the baby bjorn while I preferred the moby wrap. It was a little hard to get used to at first but once I got the hang of it, it was really comfortable and nice to have baby so close to me.
