On October 12th, my life changed in the most beautiful way as I became a mother to a gorgeous baby girl. Since then, I’ve been plenty busy with my little bundle and all the joys and challenges that a new baby brings. Like many moms, I had planned to breastfeed long before my daughter was born but found the transition to nursing to be anything but easy. Luckily, I had the NuzzleHUG which has proven to be a superhero for the breastfeeding world.
The NuzzleHUG was designed by a mom who needed something to help soothe the discomforts associated with nursing: tenderness, engorgement, swelling – you know, all that fun stuff. The HUG is comfortable to wear around the neck and chest, can be used warm or cold and gives you a hands-free option so you can go about your day. I had tried a similar product, but you had to hold it in place the whole time, which isn’t too convenient with a wiggly newborn. I love that the HUG is adjustable, depending on your neck and torso length, multi-purpose and the outer fabric can be easily cleaned in the wash.
The first time I used the NuzzleHUG, I was still battling the initial tenderness from nursing. After placing the HUG pods in the freezer for a few hours, the inserts become comfortably chilly and feel heavenly on sore breasts. Unlike gel pads that go inside your bra, the HUG can be worn either directly on top of skin or over clothing, depending on your comfort level. Using the NuzzleHug cold would also be a great way to reduce initial engorgement discomfort and reduce swelling.
Not long after discovering how amazing the NuzzleHUG used cold, I came down with a bad case of mastitis (which, if you’ve never had it, is awful!). I was so happy I was able to use the HUG warm. The pods are easily heated in the microwave and feel so soothing on sore areas. Along with prescribed antibiotics, I alternated using the HUG both hot and cold, and within 48 hours, the swelling and pain from the mastitis was completely gone. If you are prone to clogged milk ducts or mastitis, this product is a great pain-reliever!
After six weeks of nursing, I transitioned exclusively to pumping, which has come with its own set of hurdles. Before a pumping session, I use the NuzzleHUG warm for 15 minutes to help speed let-down and encourage milk flow. I have found that I can usually pump an extra ounce if I use the HUG this way.
All around, the NuzzleHug is a perfect product for breastfeeding mamas. It’s easy to use – no matter your size (it fits A-H busts), multi-functional and can be used whether your nurse or pump. While I haven’t tried it for this purpose yet, I can see the HUG being very helpful for easing menstrual or postpartum cramping.
Final thought: While pretty fool proof to use, the HUG should be used with caution when heating in the microwave, as it can get hot quickly!
We are giving a NuzzleHUG away to one lucky mama! The giveaway starts today, December 4th and ends next Thursday December 11th at 3pm CST. Winner will be chosen at random, contacted via email and have five days to claim their prize before another winner is selected.
