Hello everyone! I am a first time mom to my little sweet pea Hazel, who is three months old. We live in San Mateo, California, which is about 20 miles south of San Francisco. Even though San Mateo is considered the suburbs, it has a lively downtown area that Hazel and I walk to almost every day. We love going on walks! Our house is only 1100 square feet so making sure our house wasn’t “saturated with baby stuff” was important to my husband and me. The Wise Baby website proved to be so helpful when researching baby stuff, as I had no clue where to start. The Real Moms Favorite Products helped give me an idea of what kind of items would be useful in our suburban life. I’d love to share some of my tried and true favorites with you.
– Olian Pajama Set: This was my last “splurge” to myself when I was pregnant and I’m still loving this set three months later! I packed this in my hospital bag and these pajamas were much more comfortable than the stiff hospital gown. They come in so many cute styles. The top is easy for nursing, the pants are loose and comfy, and the robe keeps me warm. The best part is that it comes with a matching nightgown for baby (mine included a cute hat as well) so Hazel and I had a blast with our first “pajama party” at home!
– Bamboobies Nursing Pads: I love these nursing pads! They are so soft and I love that they can be reused again and again after washing. I started out by using disposable nursing pads but they never stayed in place, were itchy and uncomfortable, and the outlines were very obvious in my nursing tops and bras. Not to mention I was disappointed by how much waste was produced as they are each individually wrapped with plastic covering. The Bamboobies have a very discreet look to them, and I’ve never experienced a leak. I’ve bought two sets of these nursing pads which works perfectly with my laundry, and they have been a go-to gift for my breastfeeding friends.
– KicKee Pants pajamas: I LOVE these pajamas! Our first pair was a gift from a friend, but I’ve accrued about 6 more pairs since then. They are made of bamboo and are oh so soft and snuggly! The material is stretchy and thin, which is perfect for warm summer nights, and they will last long as she grows. Hazel has been on four flights so far and Kicky Pants are her go-to outfit for the utmost comfort on the airplane!
– aden + anais burp cloths: I don’t think anyone needs convincing as to how amazing the Aden + Anais products are, but I have to rave about these burp cloths! My baby spits up a ton and some of the burp cloths we recieved as gifts can only last for one feeding before they are soaked. The A+A burp cloths can last for multiple feedings, sometimes the whole day. I love that they can snap into a bib, which helps protect all of Hazel’s cute outfits We always use these when we are out and on the go.
– Baberoo NeckSaver: As mentioned above, we go on a LOT of walks (we’re talking 2-5 miles a day) and Hazel sleeps SO well in her carseat/stroller travel system. As a pediatric physical therapist, I do get concerned about her developing flat spots on her head from extended use in the stroller. This necksaver pillow helps prevent that problem by cushioning and supporting her neck and head in proper alignment. The pillow prevents her from resting just one spot of her head on the carseat, as well as preventing her head from slumping forward as she sleeps. Hazel looks so comfy while sleeping, I wish I had one of these every time I took a nap too!
– Boppy Changing Pad Liners: These are a must-have in Hazel’s nursery. She has gotten better lately, but in the first few weeks of her life she loved to wait until we removed her diaper before deciding to pee or poop again! Made for a lot of surprises (especially first thing in the morning)! We are better with the quick change, but these liners help keep the pad clean. It’s great that they come in a pack of three so there’s always one handy while the others are in the wash.
– Miracle Blanket: The Miracle Blanket is truly a miracle! Hazel still has the “crazy arms” thing going on when falling asleep, and this blanket keeps her arms in place. The Miracle Blanket is “part one” of our night time routine. Even if she’s a little fussy before going down to bed, she starts to settle down when her legs are put in the swaddle. By the time she is fully wrapped up she is much calmer. The blanket keeps her warm but she is never too sweaty after a full night’s sleep. We are lucky that Hazel started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old and I think this blanket is a huge reason why.
– Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine: This sound machine is “part two” of our night time routine. There are a plethora of sounds and songs to choose from (our favorite is the beach waves) and though I have yet to try it out, I like that it has an mp3 plug-in feature. The blue glow light is ample enough to see the baby when we go in to check on her, but it’s not overbearing. It’s also small and compact, we bring it on our trips to keep consistency with our nighttime routine!
– Avent Orthodontic Translucent Pacifiers: This pacifier is the final “part three” of our night time routine. After Hazel is swaddled and the sound machine is turned on, we sing a little song while I burp her one last time. Once she’s lying down, the pacifier is put in and Hazel drifts off to sleep. We originally used the Avent Soothies, and while she liked those pacifiers too, I think the heaviness of them required a stronger suck and Hazel kept spitting them out, thereby waking herself up while falling asleep. I think one night I counted re-inserting the Soothie back in her mouth 14 times! After switching to these lighter pacifiers, Hazel is able to keep them in her mouth long enough to soothe herself to sleep.
Thanks again for sharing your great list with us Betsy! xoxo
