Yay for Real Mom Wednesday! I am so excited to share wise mama, Janny’s favorites with you today. Janny is not only a savvy mama who has some great picks but she also wrote us wonderful (and witty) descriptions/reviews so I know you’ll enjoy what she has to say. A big thanks to Janny and if you’d like to share your favorites with us, we’ll love, praise and thank you big time. Seriously, we all love real mom Wednesday’s. Email me for the quick and easy details!
I am a first time mama to my super expressive and lively 5-month old baby girl Sawyer (our little Soy bean). We live in a downtown area in a 2 bedroom condo, so we try to not own anything that can’t be used in three different ways! For example; Chairs – To sit on, hang laundry and use as a ladder! Having a child is a little bit more challenging, but we try our best!
1 – 4Moms MamaRoo
This is the minimalist’s dream. The Mamaroo replaced our bassinet, swing and bouncy seat. We originally bought this because Sawyer outgrew her Rock N Play (long legged girl!) but when we tried to transition her to the crib, she cried in pain whenever she was lying on a flat surface. The Mamaroo has the ability to sit/recline at almost any angle, so we could adjust it to her comfort, slowly leaning it further back until she could sleep flat.
2 – Angel Care Sound and Movement Monitor
So once we successfully transitioned to the crib at 3 1/2 months, Sawyer immediately began rolling over to her tummy. She then began sleeping flat on her face, I’m talking straight up face plant: nose smooshed against the mattress. So whenever she slept, I could NOT sleep. I stared at the monitor to ensure she was still breathing. This monitor gives me some serious peace of mind and I can allow her to face plant away. I also feel more comfortable that it has no video now that there are so many stories about the wifi monitors being hacked and the radio frequency ones being used to scope out houses for burglary.
3 – Sassy Developmental Toys
These letters are simple but Sawyer goes to town on them. I attach them to her stroller and keep some letters in my purse so she can play and chew on demand.
4 – Honest Products
I read and researched this company up and down before Sawyer was born and I was very impressed with their mission. I have used the Honest Diapers and wipes since Sawyer was born and haven’t had any leaking or diaper rash issues. Plus the designs are super cute! We also use their bath wash, lotion, cleaning products…ok, basically everything else too. My husband thinks I joined an Honest Cult. Hey, you can’t beat the at the door delivery of amazing products.
5 – Baby Einstein Musical Activity Jumper
When I first saw this monstrosity, I thought “man, that looks like an array of garbage”. Yes, it is big, but once Sawyer could hold her head up and roll over, it was harder to keep her entertained and I didn’t want her suddenly crawling into danger when I tried to get something done in the house. This thing literally saves my days. Scoot it near the kitchen and I can actually cook and clean and she has fun by herself for 30-40 minutes at a time!
6 – Disposable Underpads
These were sent home with me from the hospital and I bought more! These were great for the first few months because of accidents on the changing station between diapers (even when there was a diaper underneath her!). We’ve saved some serious time and $$ by not having to replace or scrub to death our Aiden & Anais pad covers!
7 – BabyLegs Leg Warmers
Super functional for keeping the legs warm (who knew?) and you don’t need to take them off between diaper changes….and let’s face it, they’re adorable.
8 – Dear Kate panties
Dear Kates are a revolutionary invention that have saved my butt – literally and figuratively. They hold up to 3 tablespoons of liquid, so you can forgo the massive canoe pad during your period. Being totally real here; when I was 5 months pregnant, I developed a hemorrhoid so big that we had to do surgery. I bled for 3 weeks, and I am NOT a “pad girl.” I had recently read about Dear Kate’s and placed an order ahead of time, anticipating some late pregnancy incontinence. I lived in my Dear Kate’s during this time and became quite attached! After my c-section, I still bled for a month, so I called back in my Dear Kate’s. I don’t know what I’d have done without them! Not only are they tremendously effective and green…but super pretty! Also, their customer service is top notch and they stand by their guarantee!
This one is no longer for sale – but I highly recommend something like it:
9 – It’s the Lululemon Festival Bag
If you can find it on eBay or something like it, I can’t praise it enough. I own a Jujube BFF diaper bag which I love, but it’s so big and bulky, I couldn’t possibly take it everywhere. Plus, I was constantly taking the necessary items in and out of my purse and putting them in the diaper bag…it was ridiculous. This bag has a bottom compartment where I put 3 diapers, wipes, a pacifier, a bottle, a burp rag and a small toy, then the center compartment is all my personal items (money, make up, etc.), then two outer compartments for your phone and keys. Also, it can be worn cross body (most days) or as a fanny pack (when she’s in her carrier). My biggest fear is that someone will steal my purse, not because they’ll steal the items, but because I may not be able to replace this!
10 – Orbit Travel System
This was one investment I was on the fence about, but glad I went with my gut. I’m never hesitant to take Sawyer places or make a quick stop because it’s soooo easy to pop this thing on the stroller and go in. I have been stopped many times asking what kind of stroller it is because they see how quickly I get in and out of my car, and how I spin her around when we’re at dinner so she can face the table and the stroller isn’t blocking everyone. I love how sterdy this thing is too. Very secure strolling!
How awesome are Janny and Sawyer? I am obsessed with the Lulu Lemon bag and am officially on the hunt for one! xo
