Happy Wednesday! Short weeks are the best, aren’t they? Today’s real mom is a wise mama who I have known for a long time. She is mama to two sweet-as-can-be kiddos, Max & Darcey. Katie has lots of great choices that work for urban or suburban lifestyles. Some of her picks are also great for the older set – it is nice to see what’s coming product wise, right? A BIG thanks to Katie for sharing her awesome insight and if you’d like to share your favorites, email me!
Hi Wise Baby Readers! My name is Katie and I am a stay at home mom to a fun & energetic 2 year old named Max and a sweet & cuddly 3 month old named Darcy. We live in the beautiful town of Columbia, Missouri (Go Tigers!) which I swear has more babies per capita than any other town I’ve been to, which we LOVE! All of this products were recommended to me and I’m happy to recommend them to all of you as well. These are our absolute “must-haves” that make my life as a stay at home mom much easier.
Fisher Price Precious Planet 2 in 1 Projector Mobile
I swear by this thing! Sounds silly, but I attribute this to both my children sleeping through the night at a young age (we also use a white noise machine). I put Darcy to bed sleepy but still awake and this mesmerizes her until she eventually dozes off. Once baby is too old to have a mobile, the top comes off and its a projector! Bonus-it even has a remote so if it turns off and if baby is still awake, you can stand by the door and start it back up.
Fisher Price Snug a Bunny Swing
Now that I’m a mom of 2, I realize how important a safe, comforting swing for baby is. There are lots of times during the day that Max needs my undivided attention and it’s nice to be able to put Darcy in something that she loves. I love all the options of soothing sounds and swing speeds. The actual swing itself rotates for different “views” of the room and the bird mobile is adorable. Tip- when buying a swing, I highly recommend one that plugs into an outlet versus battery operated. Many of my friends have made this mistake and end up spending a fortune on batteries. This one plugs in!
Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo
Both my kiddos have sensitive skin and Johnson & Johnson products irritated it even worse so we made the switch to Aveeno products. Fairly inexpensive, available almost anywhere and gentle enough for my 3 month old and strong enough for my toddler!
VTech Safe & Sound Dual Camera Video Monitor
I researched video monitors for weeks and weeks and this is what I ended up choosing. At $139 you can’t beat the price and each additional camera is only $39! I opted for a basic audio monitor with my first baby but I’m so glad I upgraded to a dual camera video monitor the 2nd time around! I don’t think I could make it through the day without this thing. This has helped immensely in transitioning our 2 year old from a crib to a “big boy” bed. It also allows for me to let Darcy “self soothe” during naps and bedtime without me immediately going in and holding her. Love this thing!
Room Darkening Curtains
When decorating your children’s rooms, don’t forget the room darkening curtains! These are great especially for naptime and summertime when it’s still light out at bedtime. We love Eclipse Dayton Energy-Efficient/Room Darkening Curtains from Walmart. Inexpensive and lots of cute colors to choose from!
Munchkin Bath Letters & Numbers
Our 2 year old loves these! They are foam and stick to the bath tub when they are wet. Sometimes bath time seems to be the only time I have my son’s undivided attention. We love to go through all the letters and numbers and spell silly words. Learning + fun = happy kid and happy mama
I received these as a gift and I am obsessed. A great, SAFE alternative to traditional bumpers. They have so many styles to choose from and I love the way they look on our crib.
BabyGanics Bye Bye Dry Moisturing Eczema Care Cream
I should preface this by saying that my children don’t have eczema, but this lotion was the only thing that worked when there skin got chapped from drooling or runny noses! I could see a difference almost immediately. This is the only stuff I trust to put on my kids’ precious faces.
Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat
We originally had a full size high chair but switched to this booster seat for Max when he was about 8 months old. This allows him to sit at the table with us and isn’t bulky like traditional high chairs. This is a no-frills version but we love the removable tray and the 3 heights it can adjust to.
Jeep Traveler Tandem Double Stroller
I had a really hard time picking out a double stroller that was both practical AND affordable. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, especially since Max isn’t that thrilled with idea of being in a stroller to begin with. With that being said, Max LOVES this stroller. The front seat is perfectly designed for a 2 year old. It has a toy steering wheel that keeps him entertained along with a cup holder. Here are the main reasons I chose this stroller over the hundreds of others I researched 1.) the price! $157. I didn’t find any other tandem strollers that had all the features this one had for that price. 2.) It’s compatible with almost every type of infant carseat (we have Chicco) 3.) Fairly lightweight and easy to pop in and out of the trunk of our Ford Explorer.
Thanks again Katie – Max and Darcey are TOO cute!
