I have said it before and I will say it again, I love these real moms favorite products posts. Today’s post is special to me because we are featuring one of the sweetest gals I know, Mallory and her off-the-charts adorable little guy, Harry. I mean seriously, he is SO cute. I have considered asking Mallory if her and her hubby will consider an arranged marriage with Eloise… Anyway, back to the business at hand and Mallory’s favorite products. Mallory is a wise and savvy mom so you know her picks are good ones. And lucky for you, you can keep up with Mallory and handsome Harry via her awesome blog, r.simplelife – it is one of my favs!
I’m a first time mum to a sweet little boy, Harry. He is three months old, and I have no idea how that happened so quickly. He’s already got such a personality! Our suburban home is about 2,000 square feet, so there is no lack of room, but we are minimalists so we like to keep it simple when it comes to the baby (and mummy+daddy) products. We also move a lot (Harry’s dad and my lovely husband is in the Air Force) so everything needs be nice and durable in order to make it through lots of moves.
1. Baby Bjorn Carrier
I tried the Moby wrap when Harry was an infant (didn’t love it), but as soon as he was big enough for the Bjorn, I moved him into it and haven’t turned back. It lets me get things done when somebody just needs to be held. We both love it. He loves being held, I love having him close, and I love that I am able to get stuff done while wearing him.
2. Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper
Harry has slept in this from Day 1. It cradles him just right, it’s small and easy to move around the house (and believe me, it gets around), and if he’s fussing around in his sleep, it’s super easy for me to reach over from bed and rock him back to sleep. I can even pull it into the bathroom and take a quick shower while Harry plays with his favorite fox stuffed toy.
3. Halo Sleep Sack
While Harry sleeps in his Rock ‘n Play, he naps in his crib, and I’m so excited to say I’ve discovered the magic of the Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack. I didn’t think it’d do much, since Harry has broken out of the swaddle from early on, but just loosely containing his arms makes it so much for little falling limbs to startle him awake.
4. A good floor blanket
We have a dog and a cat, and no matter how often I vacuum, I never feel like the carpet is quite clean enough for a little baby. So all floor time is either done on a baby gym or on a floor blanket. And bonus! The floor blanket works as an actual blanket when someone’s cold (sometime’s Harry… sometimes me).
Harry’s a pacifier guy. He doesn’t need it, but he sure likes it. And we were having issues with it falling out of his mouth and him waking himself up looking for it. When we switched to the Wubbanub, he was able to hold it in his own mouth. He’s even been trying to put it in there on his own lately… usually getting an arm, but we’re working on the pacifier.
6. Cloth diapers (I use bumGenius All In One, One Size with Snaps)
We just recently started using these half of the time (as Harry grows into them) but I love them already. We’ve gone from buying a pack of diapers every 5 days, to one pack lasting 2 weeks. And cloth diapers are, surprisingly, just as easy as disposables. At least they are now while he’s still breastfeeding, but I don’t imagine them getting any harder once we introduce solids.
7. Total Baby App for iPhone
This app is golden. I bought the $5 version, and it was so worth it. You can track diapers, feedings, sleeping, baths, milestones, doctors appointments and so much more. Plus, if you’re as nerdy as I am, you’ll love the chart feature so you can pick out patterns in sleeping/eating/whatever.
A big thanks to my gal pal, Mallory for sharing her great picks with us! Be sure to check out her blog to keep up with her and her handsome little guy. If you would like to share your favorite products with us, I’d love to feature you! Email me for details.
