Today’s mama, Natalie has so many great favorites and surprisingly quite a few of them haven’t made our Real Moms Wednesday’s before! I am all but obsessed with the Gilligan & O’Malley line at Target and it is always good to see a few old favorites like the SleepSack and Swing pop up again. Thanks Natalie for your fabulous list and for sharing your lovely family with us and if you would like to share your favorites, email me for details – it is easy and fun!
Hi fellow moms! I am a first time mom to an adorably active 5 month old boy named Mílan. We live in an 1800sq ft split-entry level home in the suburbs 20 miles from Boston. The whole journey from pregnancy to mommyhood has been exciting and it just gets better everyday when I see Mílan’s little face light up. It’s true they say they grow up so fast. I discovered The Wise Baby while pregnant and it is the one site I come back to time and time again for not just product reviews but for real mom advice. I’m thrilled to be featured here and share some of the products that have been helpful for me. I hope I can offer something new and helpful to you.
1: Gilligan & O’Malley Comfort Nursing bra: During the first few months while I was home with Mílan I didn’t really prepare myself for the whole feeding/pumping attire as I basically lived in sweats all day every day, but once I returned to work, nursing/pumping bras were on the radar. I love this particular nursing bra not only is it cute, comfortable, and has a thick strap for good back support but as a die-hard push-up underwire bra-wearer I was pleasantly surprised that even without the wire and padding, the girls can be held up nice and still look good in the house or in the office.
2: Munchkin Diaper Change Pouch– This portable and pretty little kit is great cause all you got to do is slip it on your wrist and head to the nearest changing station. I used to lug the ole diaper bag around every time but there’s no need if all you need is a quick diaper change. It includes a wipeable changing pad, a zip-up packet for wipes and room for about 3 diapers.
3: Halo SleepSack Micro-Fleece Swaddle– Now that the temperature is dropping I tend to worry about how to keep Mílan warm enough without over-layering and thus over-heating him. The Halo fleece swaddle is like a warm snuggie wrapped around him. It does a good job keeping him snug and intact thru the night, plus the zipper helps to make late night diaper changes less disturbing – if possible! – without removing him completely.
4: California Baby Calendula Everyday Lotion– Since becoming pregnant, I’m much more conscious of what goes in my body and now naturally my baby’s. I love the CB baby products since they are all natural and eco-friendly and I’ll just say it: I really love this for the way it smells. It reminds me of earl grey tea, light and citrusy.
5: aden + anais Burpy Bib – This thing rocks! It’s like a wraparound dickie for your baby! A catch-all regardless of which way the spew is headed. A+A have done it again with yet another awesome baby must have. Like many moms, I’m also a fan of their swaddle blankets.
6: Pottery Barn Kids Chamois – stroller blankets, crib sheets and changing pad covers
The PBK chamois products are super soft, high quality and hold their original form thru many a washings. The stroller blanket is durable and perfect size and can be personalized. I love the crib sheet now that it is winter. It’s warm and fuzzy and doesn’t get scratchy on your skin like fleece sheets can.
7: Fisher Price My Snugabunny Cradle’n Swing – At 5 months old, Mílan still happily takes to his swing. This swing was a lifesaver in the early days and still serves its purpose today. It leaves a big footprint but if you have the room then I see no harm. One feature I sought out when researching swings was for a plug-in so there would be no worry of when a battery was about to go, although this has the battery option as well. It moves three ways at different speeds and plays lullabies, nature sounds and has a rotating mobile with cute birdies. It helps Mílan fall asleep quickly and he seems happy to be just lounging.
8: Summer Infant Right Height Center Tub– When Mílan was a newborn we used the Puj. I loved being up and close to my baby and not having to bend down in the tub. When he outgrew it, it was tricky to pick the next tub from the many great options out there but what I really liked about this one was the extra platform base designed so that you don’t have to bend as much and baby can be at eye level with you. It does take up some room but I plan to use the base as a sink step-stool in the coming years.
9: All Purpose Nipple Ointment
I don’t need to use this anymore but I feel it is worth mentioning as it was the one most important product during the early breastfeeding days that basically saved my sore nips and reignited my desire and drive to continue breastfeeding. A lactation consultant told me about this and it was honestly a miracle product. It’s a prescription only which is why you won’t find it in your local baby store or why you perhaps may not of heard of it. It was pure magic in a jar and healed me within a day or two. After that it was a breeze. Lanolin has got nothing on this God-sent stuff!
