The Ultimate Baby Registry Guide 3

The Ultimate Baby Registry Guide

Posted on

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great one and your 2013 is off to a great start.  What better way to start 2013 than with the ultimate baby registry guide?  One of the reasons I started The Wise Baby was to help parents to be with their baby registry’s.  I mean could it be more overwhelming to walk into a baby superstore and be given a scanning gun and sent to wade through thousands of baby products?  Not to be a negative nelly but half (if not more) of the products you encounter aren’t worth purchasing.  Not to mention, for good or for bad, lots of people in your life have opinions about which products you need and don’t need.   After our through research and this would be my “ideal” baby registry. It incorporates nearly all of the best baby products of 2012 and some of the other necessities to bring your baby home in comfort and style.   You can print the list by clicking the “print” button below this post!

I also added my notes below which makes this list a little bit longer – a baby registry breakdown if you will.

Gear
Car Seats
Infant Car Seat: Gracco Snugride 30 (we have the 35 and it is heavy, like too heavy for me to carry up a flight of stairs and realistically Eloise will not be in this seat at 35 pounds! – go with a lighters one that is easier to carry)
Convertible Car Seat: Britax Boulevard 70
Optional: Additional bases

Strollers
Full Size: Bugaboo Donkey (I know this is a big (and expensive) stroller but I choose this because of its ability to transform to accommodate two or three babies. If your going to make such a big investment you may as well have it for years to come – if you plan to have more children if not, go with the Bugaboo Camelon or UPPAbaby Vista)
Umbrella: UppaBaby G-Lite
Snap “N” Go: Gracco SnugRide Infant Car Seat Frame Stroller

Miscellaneous
Bassinet: Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper Mini Bassinet
Pack N Play: 4MOMS Breeze  (you can use the Arms Reach sheet for the infant top piece sheet – currently 4Moms does not sell a sheet for the top piece).
Pack N Play Accessories:
1-2 Sheets
Baby Carrier:  Baby Bjorn
Wrap:  Moby Wrap (The Baby K’tan is a good option too)

Feeding
High Chair: Baby Bjorn high chair
6 – 8 (8 oz)  Bottles: Dr. Brown’s
6 – 8 (4 oz) Bottles: Dr. Brown’s (we have eight of each size and at six months are still mostly using the 4 ounce size)
2 – 3 Bottle Cleaning Brush: Dr. Brown’s
1 – 2 bottles bottle cleaning soap:  Babble
Various sized nipples to grow with baby (we switched from size 1 to 2 at about 5 months)
The Wise Tip: Register for a gift set of bottles, its a great starter set and people are more apt to give a “set” versus individual items.
Babyfood Maker: Beeba Babycook
4 – 6 infant spoons: Nuk
2 – 4 feeding bowls: Sassy, Nuk or Pottery Barn Kids
2 – 4 sippy cups: Evenflo, Dr. Browns or Munchkin

Optional: Dishwasher basket, bottle sterilizer, sterilizer bags – we did not register or end up purchasing any of these. We were given a dishwasher basket and used it only once…
6 – 12 burp cloths: aden+anais burpy bibs (doubles as bibs too!)
4 -6 bibs: Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature
Feeding/Nursing Pillow: My Brest Friend
1-2 Feeding/Nursing Pillow Covers: My Brest Friend

Breastfeeding (if applicable)
Breast pump: Medela
Breast Milk Storage Bags
1-2 sets LilyPadz Silicone Nursing pads
50 – 100 disposable Breast pads
Lanolin ointment
2 – 4 Nursing bras: Medela or Playtex

Diapers & Accessories
Assume 10-12 per day, assume the average baby wears newborn diapers for 3-5 weeks (up to 10lbs).
50 – 75 newborn diapers: Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive
2-3 boxes of Baby Wipes: Pampers Sensitive
Diaper Rash Cream: Butt Paste, all natural
Diaper Bag
Diaper Bag accessories: travel size wipes, changing pad, scented diaper sacks, hand sanitizer, etc

Accessories:
Changing table pad: Summer Infant Contoured changing pad
3-4 Changing table covers: Pottery Barn Kids (after lots of testing, I think PB has the nicest, softest and most durable changing pad covers – they also come in great colors)
Diaper disposal: Diaper Genie
1-2 Diaper Genie Refills

Nursery
We’ve only included the necessities and left the endless décor possibilities off the registry
Furniture
Crib
Crib Mattress: Sealy Soybean Foam core
Dresser/changing table/chest
Glider
Hamper
Humidifier: Crane EE-5301 (We have the popular Crane model and I don’t love it – it is loud and leaks quite a bit when it needs to be refilled – this one is quieter and easier to fill)

Bedding
3-5 fitted crib sheets:  Serena & Lily, aden+anais
2-4 waterproof crib pads: Naturepedic Waterproof Crib Mattress Pad
1-2 Mid-weight blankets/stroller blankets: Pottery Barn Chamois Stroller Blanket (great cold weather blanket)
Wise tip: you’ll likely get blankets as off the registry gifts so limit the number you actually register for.
4-8 receiving/swaddling blankets:  aden + anais Muslin Swaddle Wrap
Our thoughts on bumpers
Some ideas for bumperless crib bedding

Sleeping:
2-4 Wearable blankets: Halo Sleepsacks (in both cotton and fleece)
Nightlight
Room thermometer: Gro Egg
Crib attachment entertainer: Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother

Baby Soothers & Entertainment
Swing/infant seat: 4moms mamaRoo (I would get this seat and pass on all other infant seats and swings, this one is bigger but could still be moved from room to room.  If you have lots of space consider the Snug a Bunny infant seat too)
Playard: Skip Hop: Treetop Friends Activity Gym
Activity Jumper: Evenflo ExerSaucer Triple
Fun Jungle
Baby Seat:  Bumbo Baby Sitter (note older models have been recalled but newer models have a harness – these should always be used on the floor and never on an elevated surface)
Optional: Bumbo Play Tray – we have never used ours so I would leave it off but some people like to use the bumbo for the introduction of solids.
1-2 Pacifiers: Philips AVENT Soothie-0-6 mos.
2-3 Wubanub Infant Pacifiers

Layette*
Brands suggestions: Carter’s, Gerber and Kissy Kissy
4 – 6 short sleeve onesies (NB, o-3, 3-6 mos)
4 – 6 long sleeve onesies (NB, o-3, 3-6 mos)
3 – 5 pull on pants
3 – 5 shirts – we love the kimino style
5 – 8 one piece sleepers or footies - these were all Eloise wore for the first 2 or so months, I much prefer the one piece for warmth then two pieces at this stage
4 – 6 pairs of socks
2 – 3 pairs of mittens - Eloise never wore/needed mittens but I know some parents love them.
2 – 3 hats
Outwear depending on the season, here our are picks for fall and winter
*We suggest the above, unless otherwise noted in newborn and 0 – 3 months. As the baby grows purchase what you use and what your baby likes. The easier to get on and off, the easier it is for you!
