As parents of newborns, we all know how important tummy time is to growth and development. If you are anything like me, the whole idea of tummy time seems a little intimidating. I mean putting my sweet peanut “face down” on her tummy was scary! I struggled to find a surface, other than my chest that Eloise would tolerate for more than a few moments which led me to the web to see what products/advice were out there. I came across The Well Baby Tummy Time Mat and was intrigued. I knew it was the perfect product to review and share with y’all. I got in touch with the great husband and wife team at Well Baby Products and was sent two mats to first review and then giveaway to two lucky readers!
Highlights: The Tummy Time Mat is thoughtfully designed by Pediatrician, Dr. Lisa Dana. The Mat is super lightweight and made of a soft, environmentally friendly foam like material. It is specifically contoured and ergonomically designed to promote a safe and happy tummy time session. One of the biggest struggles we were facing with tummy time is Eloise’s ability to gain traction on whatever surface she was placed on. She would clearly get frustrated because her arms and legs would slip just as she was about to push up. The Tummy Time Mat addresses this issue perfectly. The Mat has several ridges on both the top and bottom to solve the traction issue and they actually help babies gain the strength they need for successful development of motor skills. Further, the ridges at the top have texture to promote tactile development and to encourage touching and feeling of the mat. The large ridge near the center/top of the mat is known as the “comfort arch” and definitely helps the baby stay in the correct position for tummy time. I mentioned the surface of the mat being soft and light weight but another great thing about the material the Mat is made of is practicality. Most babies drool or even spit up during tummy time and the surface of this mat allows for a quick and easy clean unlike some of the other mats we tried. To me, this is a huge benefit because it means one less thing to put in the laundry! Not to mention, the cleanable surface makes it easy to use the mat multiple times a day.
Lowlights: There really isn’t much bad to say about the Tummy Time Mat. For the most part, it has one function and it is no secret we are big fans of products that do double or triple duty. However, this one function product doesn’t bother me. Yes, that Mat is that good! Not to mention, it is so lightweight and easy to store so it is worth every penny to serve one very important function.
Bottom Line:
The Wise Baby Rating: ![]()
The Well Baby Tummy Time Mat gets a five out of five rating. It took our baby from one who couldn’t get comfortable or happy during tummy time to one who enjoys her multiple tummy sessions and is getting stronger by the day. Being that tummy time is so important for the growth and development of little ones we can’t help but recommend this Mat to everyone. As we mentioned, the Mat is easy to store and clean in between uses and overall, I couldn’t be happier with this product. It is one of those products I am thrilled to have because I know it is helping foster Eloise’s growth and it is amazing to see how far she comes every time she uses the Mat. The icing on the already positive cake is that the Tummy Time Mat was developed by a Pediatrician so you know it was designed and manufactured with you baby’s best interests in mind.
For more on why tummy time is important, read here but to sum it up – tummy time integral to advancement of our little ones and American Academy of Pediatrics recommends at least 2-3 five minute sessions a day beginning in the early days of your baby’s life. In addition to the physical benefits research has also shown that tummy time helps with cognitive development too. Be sure to always consult with your Pediatrician to make sure you baby is ready for tummy time.

My best advice is to get a video monitor – can’t imagine life without it!
This product seems so great! I am a soon-to-be first time mommy, due in December. So, the best advice given to me thus far is to trust yourself and your instincts…we know more than we think we do! Love your blog!
I’m about to be a new mom, too, so I don’t have much advice to give! One thing I’ve heard is to sleep when the baby sleeps, so hopefully I’ll try that. I tend to need a lot of sleep!
This post is really helpful- tummy time has been intimidating for us (we are new parents). The mat looks great. My advice to new moms is to be kind to yourself as you go through a major life change.
This mat looks great! Alot better than just putting them on the floor! The best advice I have received (although not a mom yet) is to relax and enjoy the ride – no one does anything perfect!
The best advice I have received is to spend as much time skin to skin as possible during the first week so that your milk lets down faster!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Love your blog! I’m expcting in October and the best advice I’ve been given is to sleep when they sleep and let people help you as much as possible
Best advice I received is have a list ready of things friends and family can do when they come to visit the new baby and want to help out.
Nurture yourself too. Before being a mother, you were a woman. You still are. Take care of you too.
ONLY buy zip up sleepers the first three months! They poop all night long, and when you are tired there is nothing worse than trying to snap in the dark while sleep-deprieved!
Buy a Diaper Genie
Enjoy every minute and do not be afraid to ask for help!
I am a soon-to-be first time mom (in November). The best advice I have received is to read Baby Wise and try to stick to a schedule early on; also–try to sleep when baby sleeps. I love your blog!
This mat looks awesome!!!!!!!!!! Would be perfect at the grandparent’s house too~~~ What a great idea~~ Glad you posted the information……………..
I am not a mom yet, but the best advice I’ve received is to not take yourself too seriously. Crazy stuff happens while parenting and it’s ok to laugh! The mat looks like it would be a great item to have with a new baby!
I am due in 4 weeks!! I have gotten tons of advice, some I asked for and some not so much
So far the best advice I have gotten is that the only right way to Parent is what is best for you and your family. There is no secret formula or recipe.
This looks awesome! I’m about to be a first time mom but the best advice I’ve heard is to trust your instincts.
I won’t become a mom until December, but the best advice I’ve received so far is to trust your instincts and do what is right for you and your family. Also, it sounds like getting baby on a schedule (whatever it is) after the first few weeks is helpful!
My best advice is to take everything in strides. Listen and learn from your baby, it’s easy to have information overload but there’s nothing better than being in harmony with your baby’s needs.
I’ll be a new mommy next April! So far the best advice as come from my mom (of course) : “After you give birth, you are going to be tired, you’re hair is going to fall out, your body will be different, your hormones will be crazy, and you will be emotional. If anyone offers to help, say YES.”
Love your blog!
Can’t live without our Dr. Brown wide neck bottles! And don’t ever be afraid to snuggle your baby, even if the books say to let them “cry it out!”
Wow! Wish I had known about this when my daughter was little!
You can never have enough burp cloths!!
To listen to everyone’s advice but only take and apply what you deem best for you and your baby
My baby is almost 4 weeks old! I have learned a lot so far – SwaddleMe blankets are the best, you can never have too many burp cloths (in every room of the house), and enjoy all of the sweet and quiet moments of cuddling.
Trust your gut and enjoy every minute!
