When we realized we would be adding to our family, I started researching double strollers almost immediately, and I ultimately settled on the UPPAbaby VISTA. I loved that it had about a million different orientations for one or two children (even three with the PiggyBack), it was one that fit the Nuna Pipa, our infant carseat, and for a bunch of other reasons which I’ll get into, it felt like the perfect stroller for us. After a few weeks of testing the VISTA out, I’m ready to talk about just why I absolutely love this stroller.
The VISTA can be used as a single stroller or an inline double stroller which makes it a great stroller for one or two children (or as mentioned, even three with the addition of the PiggyBack). I love that the stroller is an inline double, which makes it super easy to squeeze through doors and tight spots. It’s just over two feet wide, which is about the average for single strollers, and even with the addition of the second child, the length of the stroller is surprisingly short, which, again, aids in easy maneuvering in tight spots.
The VISTA is ridiculously adaptable, both as a single and double stroller. There are countless configurations utilizing the bassinet, the toddler seat, and your infant carseat (see compatible carseats here + Nuna Pipa). It’s possible to comfortable transport two infants, an infant and a toddler, or two toddlers in the stroller.
When folding the VISTA, it is an easy one-step fold and the stroller stands on it’s own when folded, which is nice when considering how bulky some strollers feel when they are folded. It’s somewhat compact when folded, even fitting into the trunk of my Toyota Prius, the car we considered updating when we realized a double stroller would have to somehow fit into the trunk. When using both the ToddlerSeat and RumbleSeat, the stroller is still able to fold, though it is a bit bulkier than if you’re just folding it as a single stroller.
The brake on the VISTA is great as it’s the first true sandal-friendly brake I’ve come across. You step on the lever to lock the break, and step on it to unlock. There is even a handy green/red button to let you know if it’s on or not.
The easy-access basket under the VISTA is huge. Seriously, huge. It easily fits my diaper bag, plus three jackets, plus a few water bottles, and then has extra room for shopping. I’ve even taken the VISTA grocery shopping and was able to get through the store without a cart. It’s accessible even with two children on the stroller and it’s the best stroller basket I’ve come across (it’s rated to hold up to 30lbs!).
The VISTA is perfect from birth and has the ability to adapt as your family grows. The included bassinet features an vented mattress and extended SPF sun canopy and can be used for overnight sleep if need be. Oscar loves laying in it as a change of pace from his carseat, so we use the bassinet a lot this time of year when we’re at the Christmas markets.
The full-size front and rear facing toddler seat comfortably fits my three year old Harry, and can even be used for three month old Oscar. Harry loves that he can face in or out and he’s so excited for his younger brother to grow so he can fit in the RumbleSeat so they can “fly” the VISTA together. The seat easily reclines up to 180 degrees for naps on the go, and the extendible SPF canopy is adjustable, which means it grows with your child. The VISTA accommodates babies from birth up to 50lbs.
The VISTA itself is super light (27.5 lbs with seat attached) and easy to maneuver. It features shock-absorbing front and rear suspension with foam core rubber wheels, which are great. I’ve tested the VISTA thoroughly on the cobblestoned streets of Europe, and it’s been a smooth ride the whole time. My husband won’t stop talking about how much he loves the suspension on the VISTA after pushing our toddler around Paris in different strollers without the VISTA engineering.
Straight out of the box, the VISTA includes the lightweight aluminum frame and foam core rubber wheels, bassinet (with bug shield and storage bag), and toddler seat (with bug and rain shields plus bumper bar). Putting the VISTA together was very straight forward, though I spent some time trying out all the configurations (which was pretty addicting) so I would definitely recommend giving yourself time to put it together. With the addition of the RumbleSeat and necessary adaptors, I was able to fit both boys, Oscar in his Nuna Pipa, in the VISTA easily. Each adaptor is color coded so you can easily see which side of the stroller, or seat, it needs to attach to.
As I’ve mentioned, we’ve been using the VISTA for a few weeks now and I’ve had the opportunity to try it out in all sorts of venues and on different kinds of terrain. I’m happy to report we’ve yet to find a “bad” situation for the VISTA. It handles cobblestones, rocky dirt roads, and cracked sidewalks just as easily as it handles the smooth indoor flooring of the mall. Even when both boys in the VISTA, I’ve been able to easily maneuver tight aisles while holiday shopping amidst the masses.
The UPPAbaby VISTA retails for about $850, which I know is a higher price point, especially when adding the RumbleSeat ($180) and any adaptors (if needed). Because of it’s ability to grow with your family, however, I’ve found the price absolutely worth it. It’s a single stroller that successfully transitions to a double stroller while still maintaining the maneuverability of a single. I only wish I had this stroller when Harry was a baby!
Aside from the price, the only negative I have with the UPPAbaby VISTA is how bulky it can be when folded, which makes it a little difficult to load and unload into a car. Absolutely doable, but somewhat awkward. On a daily basis, this doesn’t bother me at all. I am able to fold the stroller and put it into my Volvo XC90 without any issues when I’m out running errands. However, when I am traveling, it can be a bit of a hassle to bring along. Well worth the effort for the ease of use once at my destination, but a definite effort.
Overall, I am beyond happy with the UPPAbaby VISTA. It’s easy to use, super functional, and has the ability to grow with your family. It comes in eight beautiful, easy-to-clean colors and is available from birth (even twins!) to 50lbs. It’s quickly become one of my must-have baby products.
We would never accept money for a product review however were sent a UPPAbaby VISTA for testing as part of this review.
